Long Lost Sega Sonic Cosmo Fighter Galaxy Patrol Arcade Machine Found Alive And Well In China

Long-Lost-Sega-Sonic-Cosmo-Fighter-Galaxy-Patrol-Arcade-Machine-Found-Alive-And-Well-In-ChinaWhere retro gaming is concerned, we like to believe that almost every last drop of it has been preserved for emulation and archival purposes. With this in mind, when we read news regarding the sighting abroad of a previously forgotten arcade machine combining both Sonic The Hedgehog and the Shoot 'em up (Shmup), we were on the edge of our seats.

Despite this featuring the most prolific hedgehog of all time, this coin operated treat has remained out of reach for gamers worldwide somewhat since its release in 1993. Due to this absence, the MAME ROM of SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter Galaxy Patrol understandably remains missing in action, however we hope that this recent discovery might lead to the preservation (and emulation) of this lost hit.

Upon discovering this hidden gem while on vacation in China, the lucky Sonic Paradise reader decided to document the cabinet in action to showcase the gameplay of this unusual Sonic Shmup.

To further add to the mystery of missing Sonic The Hedgehog arcade machines, Sega also combined a children's amusement ride with a video game in 1991. This unusual combination went by the name of Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car which has a few details documented on Wikipedia.

Apparently, this machine is part of a series of kids riding games, which you put the coins in and the kid gets to ride the machine for a set duration, but with the twist of being able to play a game whilst on the ride. More info here: http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=847
