Link's Awakening Predecessor: For The Frog The Bell Tolls Translated

Links-Awakening-Predecessor-For-The-Frog-The-Bell-Tolls-TranslatedIn 1992 Nintendo released a Game Boy RPG known as Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru which remained unheard of for many years. Built upon the same engine which the timeless Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening used, this Japanese exclusive RPG also known as For The Frog The Bell Tolls has finally been translated due to the efforts of ROM hackers.

While the game itself has no bearing on the Legend of Zelda series, those with keen eyes (and ears) will have already begun to acknowledge the similarities from the gameplay footage. Using the same in game font and arguably similar music, For The Frog The Bell Tolls holds plenty in store for fans of Link's many adventures.

ROMHacking.net user ryanbgstl had been working on the translation patch for Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru for several years. After adding the finishing touches this week, his patch was released on Sunday finally allowing gamers to enjoy a piece of untold Zelda history.

This is great news- I'd heard there were some problems with altering the game's font, which is why it's taken so long. Looks like a very interesting game!

Hey the prince on the left looks like the same one you find in Zelda Link's Awakening!

I remember watching a TAS of this ages ago, looked interesting enough but never wanted to play it due to the language barrier. Guess I'll give it a go.
