Limited Reproduction Run Of Unreleased Nintendo NES Flight Simulator 'Chuck Yeager's Fighter Combat'

Chuck-Yeagers-Fighter-Combat-Nintendo-NES-ReproductionIn 2010 a prototype cartridge for the Nintendo NES's rather obscure and unreleased flight simulator Chuck Yeager's Fighter Combat surfaced on eBay. With bidding finishing at a massive $2,700, the unfinished title was soon in the hands of a duo of software preservationists. As of now, these new owners are gearing up the sale of a limited run of 150 reproduction cartridges containing the game's code, with the plan of also releasing the game's ROM shortly thereafter.

This unusual title the Nintendo NES missed out was actually a rather impressive feat for the time and one which featured some advanced programming methods. Not only was Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to travel faster than sound, immortalised digitally within the game's graphics, but also his voice made an appearance through speech synthesis - something rarely seen on the 8-bit system.

According to the owners of this prototype, the game itself is rather enjoyable and has much more on offer than the other lacklustre titles from this genre on the NES. Whether or not this is for everyone though is something we'll soon be able to find out for ourselves soon. Coming in a hard-shell case with custom artwork and a game cartridge using completely new parts (and no donor cartridges), those interested will be looking at spending $110 (including worldwide shipping).

And if that's way too much to be spending on a flight simulator, you can always look forward to the generous release of the game's ROM following the sale of all 150 cartridges in the near future.
