License Agreement Between Tommo & SNK Terminated - Neo Geo X Console Discontinued

Neo-Geo-X-DiscontinuedJust mere weeks after we reviewed the Neo Geo X, SNK have decided to pull the plug on any further releases by terminating their contract with distributors Tommo. This sadly brings the console's lifespan to a tragic end after being available for less than a year.

While it is currently unknown as to why the agreement has broken down, gamer across the globe have been speculating as to why and have since drawing conclusions such as SNK being unhappy with the final product or disappointed that its copy protection had been hacked.

Either way, if you were hoping to get your hands on one of these systems, now might be a good time. Be sure to read our thoughts on the device beforehand and don't be surprised if this becomes a future collector's item due to its short lifespan.

SNK & Tommo License Agreement Termination Press Release

To whom it may concern:

Please be informed that the License and Distribution Agreement between TOMMO Inc. and our company is terminated as of October 2nd, 2013.

The Licensed Products set forth in the agreement are as follows;

Terminated Licensed Products:

- NEOGEO X GOLD Limited Edition
- NEOGEO X MEGA PACK VOLUME 1
- NEOGEO X Classics Vol. 1
- NEOGEO X Classics Vol. 2

- NEOGEO X Classics Vol. 4
- NEOGEO X Classics Vol. 5

Upon termination of the License and Distribution Agreement, SNK has demanded that TOMMO Inc. immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing & promotion and selling of the Licensed Products.

In addition, SNK has demanded TOMMO immediately cease all sales of the “SNK NEOGEO X Arcade Stick” product being sold separately from the NEOGEO X GOLD Plug and Play Console, and remove the “SNK NEOGEO X Arcade Stick” product from store shelves and online retailers. In order to protect our intellectual property rights such as "NEOGEO" and “SNK”, decisive measures will be taken against all unapproved NEOGEO X products not subject to the License Agreement.

Regarding customer support for any/all of the Licensed Products, please contact the retail store / online retailer from which the product(s) were purchased.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,

Glad SNK saw the light! :)

I had a hands on look at the arcade stick and handheld Neo X's when they first came out, and they really did feel cheap and flimsy - needless to say, I was disappointed. Glad to see the back of this rubbish - let the old stuff live on!

I wasn't as disappointed as a lot of others who bought the NeoGeo-X - in fact I'm quite happy with the hand-held aspect of the device. However I recently started using the arcade stick for MAME on my PC and have to say it's an absolute piece of rubbish! Normally I use my X-Arcade Solo stick, which has its own detractors, but it's far superior to the NeoGeo-X offering.

With them being discontinued I wonder if they will become future collectables.

Probably will become no more a collectible item than something like the Mega Drive Reactor I would hope!

Was an insult to the Neo Geo name imo, good riddance.

The Neo Geo X was definitely a let down, Ashens review sums up my disappointment with it:

Flimsy, doesn't work that well and if I want to play emulated games I can do it much better on devices I already own.

If they do a similar thing again I want them to (a) replicate the AES in hardware, don't use emulation and (b) if they include a docking station, how about making it accept my actual AES carts.
