Learn To Drive With The Atari Lynx’s PITS Training Cartridge

Atari-Lynx-PITS-System-on-eBayWe all love a good rarity and obscurity in our collection - so how about the rather unusual driving school assistant for the Atari Lynx? In 1994 a German based company created PITS (Portables Informations und Trainings System) to help guide learner drivers to success, using the fabled handheld.

Built to represent a portable version of the Driving Theory Test and Highway Code in Germany two decades ago, gamers (if we can call them that in this example) were presented a range of interactives from questions and hazard perceptions to maneuver. This also included digital photographs of test scenarios too, all condensed down to fit on the Lynx’s low resolution screen.

Needless to say this little bundle, arriving in a quaint semi-transparent briefcase which included the handheld too, is without a doubt one of the hardest Atari Lynx items to locate today. With an incredibly small number of these in collector’s hands, gamers wanting to enhance their collection (or brush up on their retro-driving skills) with the Atari Lynx PITS will need to dig deep into their pockets.

One of these bundles has recently arrived on eBay, but be warned, it’s not cheap. If anything, you may be better off getting a car of your own and keeping the leftover dosh for petrol.
