After a long period of silence from publisher Nicalis, the anticipated WiiWare port of La Mulana has finally been canned for release in Europe and North America.
The title, which received rave reviews for the PC, was part of a surge of independent games that brought high quality retro graphics and music and implemented all-new IPs for the gamers of today. The title was released on WiiWare in Japan last year, with a port coming to western shores this year. Sadly, the developer stated that poor sales figures on WiiWare titles is the reason for the cancellation.
Tyrone Rodriguez, a representative from the publisher, spoke with GoNintendo.com about the status of the game, and why it was being cancelled.See the link below for the short interview.
It's funny, I was just talking to a friend of mine who introduced me to La Mulana, and we were both pretty pumped to see this released on WiiWare. Comment below to tell us how you feel about the loss of La Mulana.
(UPDATE: After some digging, I found out that the developer of the game, Nigoro, is actually shocked that Nicalis has passed on publishing the supposedly finished project. La Mulana's message boards have blown up with disappointed fans and people who have been waiting patiently while the game was plagued by pushbacks. Supposedly, the game has been sent into the publisher, Nicalis, and they then decided to pass on it. Check out the official Twitter account for La Mulana to see their "embarrassed" posting.)

It would seem like it is time to stop waiting for the WiiWare release and just get on with playing it on a PC instead. Pity, really. I was anticipating the release of La-Mulana for such a long time, all for nothing.
