Krikzz Announces Game Boy Flash Cartridge: Everdrive GB

Nintendo-Game-Boy-Flash-Cartridge-Everdrive-GB-AnnouncedThe moment handheld gamers have all been waiting for is finally here. At long last, fans of the Game Boy can finally look forward to cramming the entire library of portable Nintendo games on the newly announced Game Boy Everdrive (or EDGB as its codename suggests) flash cartridge, which is due for release in the near future.

Very much like Krikzz's previous flash cartridges, the Game Boy Everdrive looks set to feature a SD card slot on-board, ready for a memory card packed to the brim with the ROMs of your choice. The recently released schematic of the cartridge's board also suggests a slot has been secured for a save battery too, potentially allowing the likes of Pokemon Red/Blue, Zelda: Link's Awakening and Final Fantasy Legend to be enjoyed with full save compatibility.

Some of you reading this announcement may, however, be wondering what the fuss is all about - especially given that there are already several Nintendo Game Boy flash cartridges out there, such as the GB Smart Card USB 64M and the older Bung cartridges. Unlike these older offerings, Krikzz's SD card compatibility will mean that there are no longer any memory restrictions or limitations on how many games can be sat ready on the device, nor is the Game Boy Everdrive reliant on temperamental computer software for its set up.

The only mystery currently surrounding the Game Boy Everdrive is whether or not the upcoming device will support Game Boy Color ROMs too. Having said that, Krikzz's previous offerings such as the Mega Everdrive (Mega Drive) and Everdrive N8 (Nintendo NES) have both offered compatibility with their respective siblings, the Master System and the Famicom Disk System.

While the exact release date and price of this upcoming flash cartridge is yet to be set, Krikzz's previous announcements and reveals of cartridge schematics often suggest the device is nearing completion. As usual expect to see the device in action on YouTube in the near future and hopefully a release date real soon. Until then, it's time to stock up on AA batteries!
