Japanese Exclusive Super Nintendo RPG 'Ys 5: Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand' English Fan Translation

Ys-V-Super-Famicom-English-TranslationDespite Falcom's RPG series Ys being rather popular following its worldwide outings on the Master System, TurboGrafx-16, Super Nintendo and Mega Drive, the adventures of Adol have remained somewhat of an import obscurity. As of today though, fans of the 16-bit era can now enjoy the Super Famicom's Ys 5: Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand in English following a fan translation ROM patch.

Originally released back in 1995, Ys 5: Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand took the series in an all new direction due to its complete visual overhaul - one which saw the title looking much more like the Super Nintendo classic Secret of Mana. The gameplay, however, remained somewhat similar to its last outing, but very different to what American gamers were used to with the officially localised Ys III.

This now top-down action-adventure finds Adol traversing through new lands, all in hope of discovering the vanished desert city of Kefin. With its step away from the sidescrolling gameplay, fans of The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past should definitely consider tasking themselves with finding this ancient city, as Ys V has a lot to offer fans of the genre.

Aeon Genesis recently released their fan translation patch for the game after what they've described as being a 'bumpy road' and troublesome few years of ROM hacking. Following countless crashes and errors, the talented team have finally ironed out all the issues from translating the script and can proudly say that the game can be played in English from start to finish.

Ys 5: Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand (Gameplay) Untranslated

As usual, to enjoy this fan translation patch you will need to have an original Ys 5: Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand ROM file to which you can apply this patch to. Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the download, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
