Japanese Exclusive Super Nintendo RPG ‘Dark Half’ Fan Translated Into English

Dark-Half-SNES-Fan-Translation-PatchPublished by RPG-powerhouse Enix in 1996, Dark Half for the Super Nintendo was a Japanese exclusive release that left many import gamers lusting for a localisation. Having never ventured outside of Japan presumably due to its questionable content, this tactical RPG has finally been fan translated and made playable in English.

This unusual adventure was a fairly late release within the Super Nintendo’s life, however, developers Westone (the same team behind the Wonder Boy series) showed that there was plenty of life left in the 16-bit system. Offering a rather atmospheric soundtrack and memorable RPG visuals, this isometric tactics-based title had a rather chilling vibe behind it. With the game’s story letting you control both the hero and villain as their tales grow intertwined, controversial scenes are soon within your hands - such as the hero’s evil equivalent crusading through defenseless villages.

Controversies aside, the game offers some fantastic traditional grid based battles and interesting mechanics to keep any RPG gamer hooked. With hours of gameplay on offer, this will no doubt be another title to add to our ever growing RPG backlog - and those interested can now download the English fan translation patch for the Japanese Dark Half SNES ROM from Aeon Genesis.

I wish more games had local translations. Also, having the time to play them would be a bonus...
