In 1995 the Super Famicom received a role playing game based upon the largely popular Japanese fantasy novels known as Record of Lodoss War. Like the rest of the games in the series prior to the Dreamcast adaptation, this 16-bit adventure remained a Japanese exclusive - at least until a fan translation group decided to make amends.
Dynamic Designs recently announced on their website that they had finally finished translating the Super Nintendo title into English. This downloadable ROM patch for Record of Lodoss War finally translates all of the in-game dialogue and menus into something we can all enjoy, finally making one of Japan's memorable series more accessible.
The game itself follows the tried and tested traditional top down exploration of pixelated environments, but the battle system instead provides a interesting blend of several styles. Gamers familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre will feel right at home with the isometric battles, however, the more compact battlefields lean closer to the more traditional quick fire fights.
Record of Lodoss Wars (Super Famicom) Gameplay
As usual, to enjoy this fan translation patch you will need to have an original Record of Lodoss War Super Famicom ROM file to which you can apply this patch to. Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the download, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
