Japanese Exclusive Sony PlayStation Portable RPG ‘7th Dragon 2020’ Fan Translated Into English

7th-Dragon-2020-PSP-English-TranslationAs far as Role Playing Games go the much loved classic formula of turn based battles have taken somewhat of a backseat in the last few years. With the likes of Final Fantasy opting for more action-based combat, the days of battling through menus are numbered. That said, one of the most significant releases in the last decade that isn’t afraid to let go of the past has just seen an English fan translation patch released.

7th Dragon 2020 on the Sony PlayStation Portable was the highly anticipated follow up to the Nintendo DS release 7th Dragon. Despite sticking to the more traditional RPG format, both games in the series are critically acclaimed titles and often regarded as being some of the best adventures available on their retrospective systems. If that wasn’t enough for retro gamers already, the game’s producer previously worked on the Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star series, and music from Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage fame is present too.

Although just five years old and yet to transcend into the retro gaming realm, 7th Dragon 2020 is definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre. The English translation patch released by Geoff Embree (also known as Cavespeak in the fan translation scene) weighs in at a hefty 500mb download, and requires a modified Sony PlayStation Portable to play.
