Japanese Exclusive Nintendo Game Boy 'Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness' Gets Fan Translated

Japanese-Exclusive-Nintendo-Game-Boys-Makaimura-Gaiden-The-Demon-Darkness-Gets-Fan-TranslatedIn 1993, Capcom released a follow up to their hugely popular Ghosts'n Goblins spin-off title Gargoyle's Quest. While the Nintendo NES version of Gargoyle's Quest II was released worldwide, the Nintendo Game Boy version, Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness, remained a Japanese exclusive - at least until now.

The Gargoyle's Quest series started life on the Nintendo Game Boy in 1990. The game features a fantastic blend of action-RPG elements and the rock-hard platforming elements found in Ghosts'n Goblins. Despite Gargoyle's Quest II being the second game in the spin-off series, it's actually a prequel to the original release.

What makes the handheld version more notable though, is that it features two additional levels that didn't make the cut in the home console version.

ROM hacking fan translators have been hard at work over the last few months deciphering the entire Game Boy sequel. Their efforts, however, have paid off. A fan translation patch for the Japanese exclusive Nintendo Game Boy port of Gargoyle's Quest II, aka Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness, has just been released.

A downloadable English patch for Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness can now be found at ROMHacking.net. As usual, to enjoy this fan translation patch you will need to have an original Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness ROM file to which you can apply this patch to.

Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the download, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
