Japanese Exclusive Nintendo Famicom Turn-Based Strategy 'King of Kings' Fan Translated Into English

King-of-Kings-Famicom-English-TranslationMany gamer's first experiences with the turn-based strategy genre on consoles were had with the arrival of games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Advance Wars. Looking back though, there were plenty more strategy based battlers on offer, only the majority of them skipped out on worldwide releases. One of the most notable titles in the genre, King of Kings for the Nintendo Famicom, has just been fan translated into English - the very same title which inspired creator Kazuma Kaneko to press on with the Megami Tensei series.

Originally released back in 1988 by Namco, the game was fairly advanced for its time with its wide array of 22 different units spread over different classes such as people, dragons, fairies, and many more types. With each holding advantages and disadvantages over each other in combat, gamers found themselves fighting through a detailed campaign mode with the aim of taking down Lucifer. Similar to Advance Wars, new units could be produced within castles, and different terrains provide defense bonuses depending on their type. Although the game itself may only appeal to a select audience, the depth is there for those looking to sink their teeth into a highly technical and advanced 8-bit adventure.

The newly released English fan translation patch for King of Kings localizes all of the game's menus and dialogue, finally bringing this advanced Nintendo Famicom title to the masses. Similar to the many other fan translation patches out there, you'll need to get hold of a legally obtained King of Kings Nintendo Famicom ROM file to apply this patch to.
