Japanese Exclusive Adventure 'Survival Kids 2' Fan Translated Into English

Survival-Kids-2-English-Translation-ReleasedIn 2000 Konami released a follow up to their shipwrecked adventure Survival Kids on the Game Boy Color. Although remaining a Japanese exclusive until the series was revitalised under the new name Lost In Blue for Nintendo DS, fan translation efforts have finally brought Survival Kids 2: Dasshutsu! Futago Shima to English speaking audiences.

For those unfamiliar with Survival Kids, the game is exactly as it sounds - an RPG where your main aim is to survive against the odds of nature and find your way back to civilisation. Using the much loved top down adventure viewpoint, the first game in the series found our main protagonist washed up on a desert island. By combining items, bravely eating foraged goods and scouring the land, escape is made possible as long as the player remembers to drink often and recover through sleep.

Although sounding dull and too lifelike to be enjoyable, the adventure elements of Survival Kids are absolutely fantastic and definitely worth checking out. The game can be found in both Europe and North America (also under the name Stranded Kids), occasionally commanding a fair price due to its small print run. Survival Kids 2 on the other hand was clearly deemed to risky to release outside of Japan, something which left newly formed fans of the series stranded on Konami island in 2000. Despite growing demand for the title over the years, fan translation efforts to localise the game in English only surfaced in April 2013 - a project which has just been finished and released.

A downloadable patch to play Survival Kids 2: Dasshutsu! Futago Shima in English has been released over at the ROMHacking.net forums by member hattontown. As usual this fan translation patch arrives as an IPS file which can be applied to an original Survival Kids 2 ROM using software such as Lunar IPS.
