Jaleco's Saturn Shmup The Game Paradise Coming to Steam and PS4 with Extras

Joining the likes of Battle Garegga and Dangun Feveron as shmups we did not expect to get modern-day ports on Playstation 4, Jaleco obscurity The Game Paradise will be getting a rerelease on both PS4 and Windows via Steam, in a new version titled The Game Paradise: CruisinMix.

Originally released in arcades in 1995 as Game Tengoku in Japan and The Game Paradise: Master of Shooting! in English, it's a parody shoot-em-up in the vein of Konami's Parodius, with the twist being it's set in a game centre, sending a selection of Jaleco heroes- Jeynus from Exerion, Selia from Plus Alpha, Momoko from Momoko 120%, a pig from Butasan and the Z-Dyne MK II from Formation Z- fight through bizarre stages such as the inside of a crane game, inside a racing game, and even a world of polygons. The game was later ported to the Saturn in 1997, which added the UFO from Field Combat, fully-voiced custcenes, and several extra stages, most famously a karaoke stage where you have to shoot the words coming from a singer's mouth. There was even a collector's edition that came with a 15-minute cartoon based on the game on VHS!

The Game Paradise: CruisinMix, then, is an enhanced port of the Saturn version for PS4 and Steam, including the extra character and stages, but also including the original arcade version (as in the Saturn port), support for online leaderboards, and another new character vira DLC- Clarice from City Connection. Physical versions will also come with the 15-minute cartoon on an extra DVD, and an even more lavish rerelease comes with an art book and the cartoon's script. Amazingly, while there's no confirmation of a physical version, Degica Games will be handling a Western release of the game! This'll be the first time the Saturn version has been available in English, so this is definitely something die-hard Jaleco fans- don't lie, we know you're out there- will want to look into.

There's no date for the Western release just yet, but the Japanese version will be out sometime in Winter 2017,

Wait, what do I put in this box again? Oh, it's about me. I like playing weird and unusual games- the sort you're likely to forget about- and I hope you like reading about them because they're what I write about. And game trivia too. Please look forward to it!

The game paradise is actually a pretty good shooter. I'll be keeping an eye out for a physical release but I imagine it will be one of the annoying limited release things.
