Is Shenmue 3 Finally Set To Be? Yu Suzuki Expresses Interest In Reviving The Sega Dreamcast Series

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive today, thanks to comments made by Shenmue director and producer Yu Suzuki - but could the final chapter soon become a reality? Will Sega allow it? Are we dreaming?

French reporter Sebastien-Abdelhamid recently interviewed Suzuki-San at the Monaco Anime Game Show (MAGS), and afterwards the journalist tweeted some very interesting stuff.  For those of us not able to translate, I'll elaborate - Suzuki apparently expressed great interest in using the likes of Kickstarter to fund a Shenmue revival. Bearing in mind that the first two games cost an estimated $70 million to make, there would almost certainly have to be some compromises somewhere along the line.

Don't fall off your chair just yet, though - as he also stated that he would gladly continue the story in Anime format.  While not exactly the ending fans have hoped for, this could serve the series well and perhaps even provide continued adventures for our sailor-searching hero.

Shenmue 3 has been in and out of development for years, and in a 2011 interview Suzuki even stated that he thought SEGA would probably allow him to proceed with the project, albeit without funding.

Is Shenmue 3 a good idea, or would it spoil the rose-tinted memories we have of the much-loved franchise?

Let us know your feelings below!

 AARRGGHH!! Don't do this to me! I'd almost lost all hope of this final Shenmue being released (and managed to continue with my life!). I would dearly dearly love for Shenmue 3 to be released. Let's face it, it aint gonna happen for a loooong time. Incidentally, some of the fan mock up vids are quite interesting.

Dear Sega
Either finish this epic, and let us, the faithful, finish a story we started before most of the current generation were even born…

… or let it die.

Teasing isn't fair.

Sega, we love you, don't be cruel.
