Is Lucasarts 'Day Of The Tentacle' Heading To The Mega Drive?

Day-of-the-Tentacle-Sega-Mega-DriveStranger things have happened in the retro gaming world. We've seen Wolfenstein 3D modified into a bible-em-up, unreleased vulgar versions of NBA Jam, and even efforts to dig up the rumoured landfill of Atari cartridges. So the arrival of a homebrew attempt to bring Lucasarts Day of the Tentacle over to the Sega Mega Drive should come as no surprise.

Over at the leading Sega Mega Drive homebrew development forum SpritesMind, user Mills recently stopped by to share some tech demos he has been working on. Within these shared ROM files were two technical demos to show how Day of the Tentacle and the mini-golf classic Fuzzy's World of Miniature Space Golf could work on the 16-bit console.

Before you get too excited about either of these, they're nothing more than examples of what can be achieved with the system. Day of The Tentacle, at best, is just a soundless snippet of the game's introduction and an explorable first hall of the Edison Mansion, while Fuzzy's Miniature World of Space Golf is just an animated title screen. Having said that though, it's interesting to see how Lucasarts classics could work on the console, especially given the only adventure ever ported Sega's way was The Secret of Monkey Island on Sega CD.

Whether or not development will continue on these two titles is yet to be known. As of speaking both of these tech demos can be freely downloaded via SpritesMind, but to save you the effort, here's a video of the two in action.
