Indie Adventure 'La-Mulana' Returns With Kickstarter Sequel

La-Mulana-2-Kickstarter-OpensDrawing inspiration from the visuals of MSX classics and the gameplay of Castlevania and Metroid combined, indie developer GR3 Project / NIGORO released their hit title La-Mulana in 2005 to critical acclaim. One WiiWare re-release later, the original developers are back and are set to gift the game a sequel through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

If you're yet to play La-Mulana, the freeware Windows PC release can still be downloaded today - although to get going on it you'll need to use a fan translation to understand the game's dialogue. Translations aside, the pixel perfect look and expansive areas to explore will leave you wishing this title was also playable on retro hardware, along with an unshakeable feeling of nostalgia about how games used to be.

Going by the La-Mulana 2's Kickstarter page, NIGORO are staying true to the original by closely following the re-released version's art style and gameplay, with the aim of providing seasoned players a new adventure, and those new to the name, something special. Within the game you'll assume the role of Lumisa Kosugi with the aim of locating the entrance to the ruins of Eg-Lana - the rumoured source of recent monster appearances.

As of speaking the fundraiser has managed to gather over a quarter of its intended target with over a month to go. Pledges of $12 and upwards will secure a digital copy of the game, whilst more generous donors will be able to get their hands on one of a kind pieces of artwork and other goodies.

Simply put, from a retro gaming point of view, if there is any Kickstarter you need to back this year, it's the revival of the La-Mulana name.
