Having been in development for quite some time, and delayed, Frozen Utopia have finally managed to release their PC Engine CD homebrew RPG after all. Mysterious Song is a remake of an old 1999 MS-DOS RPG by Darkness Ethereal, which has been given the NEC J-RPG treatment both in game and in packaging.
Funnily enough the original Mysterious Song was a homebrew release programmed in QuickBasic all those years ago - one which has obviously made quite an impact on these dedicated PC Engine homebrew developers. Mysterious Song starts off with some visually impressive anime cutscenes including voice acting shortly before throwing the player into the wonderful world of traditional retro gaming RPGs.
Should Frozen Utopia's release take your fancy, you're in luck. Just days before they announced the launch of Mysterious Song, an all new platformer by the name of Valkyrie Midnight had gameplay screenshots showcased on their Facebook page.
