Homebrew Commodore 64 Shmup Edge Grinder Now Available

Homebrew-Commodore-64-Shmup-Edge-Grinder-Now-AvailableIf you're a fan of the home computer ports of R-Type and the like, look no further. The collective Commodore 64 homebrew effort known as Edge Grinder has finally arrived on the classic system. Available as a free download or on a feature packed cartridge, this shmup holds plenty of promise for shooter fans.

This new release comes from team Cosine via Format War's collaboration competition, offering a glorious reminder of why we love horizontal scrolling shooters on the Commodore 64. The idea behind the competition was to give other 8-bit computer fans something to port over to their system of choice, with the entire source code to the game being made available early on.

And if you were still looking for reasons to invest in the game and appreciate the team's collective effort, the story alone featuring space pilot Lim Tandell has enough tongue-in-cheek humour to warrant a thumbs up. But be careful with that game name Cosine, one of those words is trademarked!

Damn you retrocollect for making me want to buy games I don't have the capability of playing!

Looks pretty good, love the soundtrack. If I still had a 64 I would get this for definite.

Awesome!
Incredible timing too since I only just recently hooked my C64 up to my iMac so I could screen grab some pics I drew in Saracen Paint back when I was a kid.

It'll take a lot of will power not to pick this up.
