Homebrew 'Castlevania: Spectral Interlude' Brings Konami's Classic Series To ZX Spectrum

ZX-Spectrum-Homebrew-Castlevania-Spectral-InterludeEarly last year an incredibly talented homebrew developer revealed he was bringing the timeless Castlevania series to the ZX Spectrum unofficially. After releasing a playable demo of the game, the complete and incredible Castlevania: Spectral Interlude has finally been unleashed - and it's something even Konami should be proud of.

Originally starting life as a port of the Nintendo NES adventure Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, this ambitious project eventually evolved into a completely new and unique entry in the series. Featuring everything we know and love about the platformer, Castlevania: Spectral Interlude not only does the series justice, but also pushes the ZX Spectrum to its upper limits in terms of visuals, gameplay, and soundtrack too.

Castlevania: Spectral Interlude Features

  • More than 150 game screens, including hidden rooms
  • 10 enemy types and unique bosses
  • Upgrades
  • Built-in game map
  • 2 difficulty levels
  • “Lost” story explaining the disappearance of Belmont's from later Castlevania games
  • Soundtrack with 12 songs

Luckily for us Castlevania: Spectral Interlude has been released for free online as a downloadable .TAP file, playable either on the original hardware using a DivIDE adapter, or via a ZX Spectrum emulator.
