Home Computer Classic 'Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior' Ported To Sega Mega Drive

Barbarian-Sega-Mega-Drive-PortIn 1987, before the days of Mortal Kombat, the most brutal fighting game around was the home computer classic Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior. This memorable battler was based on the Conan the Barbarian books and featured just as much graphical gore as the words it was derived from. As of today, you can now experience this retro classic on your Sega Mega Drive following an unofficial port.

This new offering comes directly from French homebrew developer Lecornec François, who over the last few years has been porting Amstrad CPC titles over to different platforms - such as Crazy Cars. The unofficial Mega Drive port of Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior is based upon the Apple II version of the game, and plays exactly as you all remember it, only this time round on the 16-bit console.

A physical copy of the game has been doing the rounds on a French retro gaming forum, however, as of speaking it is currently unknown whether or not the game will be sold on cartridge as of yet. In the meantime you can download a ROM of the 16-bit version of this classic fighter for free from the developer's website.

I'm so pleased that this is available on Megadrive. Barbarian is a perfect fit for Sega's controllers. Such a shame it's a straight port of one of the worst versions out there :(
