HD Remake of PlayStation classic: Abe's Oddysee in development

Abes-Oddysee-HD-Remake-Coming-SoonAfter the recent release of the lost Oddworld soundtracks, we suspected that we could be hearing from Abe again soon. Fans will be pleased to know that the Sony PlayStation classic; Abe’s Oddysee is set for a HD remake.

14 years ago, the scrawny little turquoise Oddworld Inhabitant arrived on our PS1s in a rather unexpected hit. Featuring gameplay similar to the likes of Benefactor (Amiga), Abe must rescue his fellow Mudokons from the many meat grinders controlling their population.

Fans will be pleased to hear that the remake, although using a 3D engine, will be the tried and tested 2D gameplay identical to the original.

Abe HD is going into production. It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer. So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?’

I remember being bought the original Abe for my PS1 back in the day. I thought to myself what's this rubbish and ignored it for a good month not even trying it. Thankfully I did eventually play it and once I started I could not put it down. Fantastic game and I highly recommend all check out the original! Great game!
