Handy Gear: The Sega Game Gear with a Decent Screen and Much More

Handy-Gear-The-Sega-Game-Gear-with-a-Decent-Screen-and-Much-MoreThe Sega Game Gear screen is something all Nintendo fans look at rather smug due to it's lacking quality, however one gamer has the answer. The HandyGear makes the most of a high quality LCD screen, rechargeable battery pack and even a built in Master System adapter, creating the ultimate portable 8-bit Sega handheld.

Sadly the Handy Gear is a one of a kind device, currently being enjoyed by its creator over at the SMSPower messageboard. Her custom built handheld is not the first of her creations, having previously built the HandyDuo- a Nintendo NES and SNES handheld combined.

The HandyGear uses the crystal clear PsOne LCD screen to output pixel perfect Game Gear games, bringing clarity to the previously blurry display seen with the 8-bit handheld. To fit the larger screen inside the device, a custom case has been used to offer a bit more room for some extra features.

Here is the specifications

  • System - Game Gear
  • Batteries - 2 3.7v li-ion 5700 mAh (Battery life currently untested)
  • Case - Frankencased zn-40, Game Gear case with Master Gear Converter housing
  • Screen - PsOne Screen modded with 6 LEDs
  • Controller - Original Game Gear buttons and pads, random controller cut up for the board
  • Extra - Power LED changed from red to pink; Case has custom made decals/sticker; Sega Master System converter (Master Gear Converter) hard wired on to allow for sms playability.

But enough talk about the HandyGear and onto some videos of the handheld in action.
