GD-Emu Project: Sega Dreamcast SD Card ISO Loading Add-On Device Nears Completion

GD-Emu-Dreamcast-ProjectBack in 2012 news arrived that the Dreamcast was set to receive an alternative to loading games from disc. The GD-Emu Project aimed to entirely replace the 128-bit console's disc drive by switching it out for an SD Card equipped modification, one capable of loading game ISOs. As of today this project is now complete, with a small production run expected soon.

The talented individual behind this project also happens to be the same one who brought us the Sega Dreamcast emulator Makaron. Deunan, as he is known, has remained largely quiet throughout the entire process of his project - presumably due to the volume of requests and questions he has reported receiving since starting. As of today though, Deunan's latest update shows off a selection of completed GD-Emu boards awaiting an SD Card filled with Sega classics, along with images of the device inserted into a Dreamcast.

Although it is yet to be confirmed as and when these devices will go on sale, a limited run as been hinted at and one we'll have to keep a close eye on. In the meantime, those wanting to experience a similar solution to loading games on the Dreamcast through removable media can always give the Serial Port SD Card adapter a whirl.

This is very interesting...I've got an SD card adapter for my Dreamcast but I've never been able to get it working. Because I'm as thick as a submarine door, most likely. :D
