Over the last year countless video game prototypes have surfaced online including many we never expected to see - for example the unfinished port of Resident Evil on the Game Boy Color. An early version of the Nintendo 64 shooter, Perfect Dark, featuring a hidden debug menu is due to be released via an online fundraiser.
The owner of this Perfect Dark prototype code is hoping to raise enough funds via donations, in exchange for release of the ROM online. What is rather unusual about this cause is that no prototype cartridge is involved whatsoever. Unlike usual releases that have been archived from development hardware, this ROM has apparently been provided by a trusted source who believes it originated from Nintendo.
Screenshots of the game in action including the debug menu - which features easy access to cheats such as 'All levels' - can be seen on Past To Present Online, the same site which the fundraiser has originated from.
Should you be interested in donating to the cause and helping out in the release of this Perfect Dark prototype, be sure to check out the on-going fundraiser taking place on the NintendoAge forums.
