In 2008 a retro flavoured platforming adventure was released for free on the PC. Four years later Spelunky is being revamped for the Xbox 360 with one of the original developers on board. While staying faithful to the original, the updated version of the game will introduce multiplayer mayhem and a whole host of new additions.
If you're unfamiliar with the original freeware release of Spelunky, you're in for a treat. The game pays homage to the likes of the home computer classic Spelunker and the more modern indie classic La-Mulana. Holding a wealth of randomly generated caverns to explore with plenty treasure to uncover -should you be able to avoid the bats, snakes, spiders, yetis, man-eating plants and ghosts.
Spelunky for Windows can still be downloaded for free and comes highly recommended by the team here at RetroCollect.
The Xbox 360 remake and re-imagining features a crisp vector look, modernising the graphical style, whilst appearing to keep the majority of the gameplay intact. The new multiplayer features will allow you and several friends to either compete in a Bomberman style deathmatch, or to team up to further explore the twisting caverns.
