First Star Software's Boulder Dash Is Heading To The Atari 2600

First-Star-Softwares-Boulder-Dash-Is-Heading-To-The-Atari-2600Despite being a runaway success in the 80's gaming world, the classic hit by Peter Liepa and Chris Gray known as Boulder Dash never made its way onto the massively popular Atari 2600. Arriving 27 years after the first release of the game, a small team of homebrew enthusiasts are bringing Rockford back to his Atari roots.

The lack of Boulder Dash on the 2600 comes as a real surprise given the first outing Rockford had was on multiple home computers including the Atari 400. Boulder Dash has since appeared on countless consoles including various remakes and re-imaginings, including the rather fantastic Boulder Dash EX for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

This new homebrew version of Rockford's mining adventure has been put together by developers Andrew Davie and Thomas Jentzsch, in association with publishers AtariAge and even the original publishers; First Star Software. While this may have been created much further beyond the lifespan of the Atari 2600, we're going to go out on a limb and pretend this is the real deal given the original publishers have joined in on the project.

Collectors and fans of the 2600 will be pleased to hear that this new release is set for an authentic release spanning just 250 cartridges. As usual, this extremely limited pressing will be available on a first come first served basis, being sold on the AtariAge Store in time for Christmas. While it isn't available just yet, keep your eyes peeled for it's arrival shortly.

if ever I had a reason to miss my old Atari 2600, then this is it
Boulderdash is one of the greatest games available; and to own this original on a cartridge for the 2600 would truly be something

the fact that First Star Software had a saying in all of it, simply makes this an incredible release

thanks for posting and I'll keep my eyes peeled on this

Amazing. Considering how technically limited the 2600 is, this conversion seems like a slice of genius.

Wow O.o ... this is really a great achievement. I never imagined that 2600 would ever be this game, and very well done.
This game is one of my favorites. I recently found a very accurate Boulder Dash version. Here is:

It's very good.
