First Screenshots of Watermelon's Upcoming Sega Mega Drive Homebrew Brawler 'Project Y'

Project-Y-Watermelon-Mega-Drive-HomebrewIn late 2012 it was announced that the homebrew developers behind the hit Mega Drive RPG Pier Solar were working on a new side scrolling brawler for Sega's 16-bit console. Project Y, as it is know, has had very few updates or mentions since its original reveal, however, this weekend screenshots of Watermelon's in-development title have surfaced.

Unsurprisingly, Project Y seems to heavily draw inspiration from the all time classic Streets of Rage - featuring not only a very similar HUD, but also a familiar setting in a grim neighbourhood filled with digital punks. Looking at these two screenshots (which appear to be photographs of the title running on the original hardware), Project Y seems to feature collectable power ups and multiple layers of depth for the game's visuals.

Although this is very little to go on as of yet, we cannot deny that we're eagerly awaiting another update from Watermelon Games on what is appearing to be a very polished Mega Drive homebrew.
