More commonly known as Penny Racers or Gadget Racers in Europe, the obscure pocket sized car racing series known as Choro Q is Takara's popular Eastern offering. The second Sony PlayStation 1 title in the series never left Japan, however, fan translators have now managed to decipher to exclusive title for English speaking audiences.
In 1996, Takara released Choro Q on the Sony PlayStation in Europe, under the name Penny Racers. While the series did make a much earlier European debut on the MSX in 1984, the 32-bit offering was the series' ignition and awakening, which paved way for Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and PlayStation 2 sequels.
Many sequels and spin-offs to Penny Racers were released on the PlayStation 1, however, they remained Japanese exclusives. Choro Q 3, however, was translated by ROM hackers late last year, and as of now, just in time for Christmas, a downloadable fan translation patch has been released for Choro Q 2. One both racing fans and RPG gurus should consider taking a look at.
