Fabled 'Flappy Bird' Unofficially Soars Onto Atari 2600

Flappy-Bird-Ported-To-Atari-2600Whether it's an attack on mobile gaming, concerns about the developer's safety or the removal of the game itself, everyone's talking about Flappy Bird. While it may no longer be available on mobile, a 2600 developer has taken it upon himself to instead immortalise the game's legacy on Atari's classic console.

Flappo Bird as it is known is the latest release from TACS Games, a company better known for its output on PlayStation Mobile and Android devices. The Atari 2600 offering plays almost identically to the now removed mobile equivalent, with the only change being that each (Mushroom Kingdom) pipe encounter is given its own screen instead of scrolling.

Flappo Bird has been released for free online as a downloadable Atari 2600 ROM, one which can either be enjoyed in an emulator or on the original hardware using the Harmony Flash Cartridge.

Its funny, I created a game on the 2600 called 'Zim' I thought it was impossible to play but it had a crazy addictiveness to it. I gave it to a few people and they went nuts and started getting scores in the thousands, where I couldnt get more than 50...

Fkn flappy bird is soooo overrated. It's basically Bird Week (NES) with no enemies, no babies to feed bugs, stuck going in one direction and no real point but to avoid the Super Mario pipes and get a high score. Since when did Game & Watch games with improved graphics become THIS popular...?
