F-Zero X Climax ROM Modification Introduces Game Boy Advance Courses & Enhanced Visuals to the N64

F-Zero-X-Climax-N64-ROM-HackIf the slipstreaming ultra fast tracks of the Nintendo 64's F-Zero X have grown old to you, then you may want to shift your attention to a recently released fan made modification. F-Zero X Climax is the unofficial combination of the N64 classic and the Japanese exclusive Game Boy advance release F-Zero Climax - a perfect blend offering even more fast paced action.

Unlike other modifications of retro racers using imaginary tracks, ROM hacker Philippe Brodier has adapted the once 2D courses from the Game Boy Advance obscurity into the 64-bit system’s 3D environment. Although these tracks may not be too familiar to most of us, each and every one of them not only follow Climax’s layout almost perfectly, but also bring along new twists and turns the Game Boy Advance couldn't offer previously due to its faux-three-dimensional Mode-7 gameplay.

Furthermore this ROM hack has even updated the game’s graphical interface, several mechanics behind the vehicle’s handling and also its iconic title screens. If this complete overhaul wasn't enough to entice you into reliving the 1998 futuristic racer once more though, maybe the fact that it has been created to work perfectly on the original hardware (via an Everdrive 64, 64Drive or even the much older backup devices such as the Doctor V64) will get you to dust down your Nintendo 64 and put on your racing helmet.

F-Zero X Climax (ROM Hack) Gameplay

As usual, to enjoy this fan translation patch you will need to have an original F-Zero X (US or Japanese) ROM file to which you can apply this patch to. Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the download, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
