Let's face it, a lot of the greatest MSX releases require the MSX2 hardware; Space Manbow, Bubble Bobble and Metal Gear to name a few. Sadly the hardware doesn't come cheap, but those who own the original MSX are in luck. One talented enthusiast is currently building a ROM cartridge which will expand the MSX's capabilities to that of an MSX2.
French MSX fan Fabf's extension contains a MSX2 VDP, 128KB VRAM, ExtROM and video circuitry to give the original hardware an adrenaline rush. Although work is still underway and much progress is yet to be made, a video has been uploaded to YouTube video showcasing the hardware's dual boot.
Hopefully this impressive piece of work will pave way to a cheaper alternative to enjoying the fruits of the MSX2 on the original hardware.
