Although we're just weeks into the new year, yet another retro gaming event has added itself to the growing line up in the form of a tournament. HISCORE 2012 is an arcade gaming competition hoping to find the greatest coin-op gamers around the country, later this year in Manchester.
In the past the event organisers CGEU have held their HISCORE events at the now closed Arcade Barn, which has inevitably pushed the event further north. HISCORE 2012 is set to take place in Manchester's finest pub, the Lass O'Gowrie on June the 2nd and 3rd. Having previously hosted a wealth of gaming events such as Eurocon and the Sega8bit meet, you'll be in safe hands due to the influence retro gaming has on the landlords.
The event is to put together 50 applicants against one another in a high score challenge on a wide range of games. The king of the coin-ops will be set to walk out with a one of a kind custom-designed Minicade MAME cabinet worth £350, a step up from the £100 cash prize from last year. The event will also offer prizes for those who didn't quite claim the crown along with other console based competitions. And if competitions aren't quite your thing, you'll still be able to enjoy a selection of freeplay machines during the weekend.
Will you take up the challenge or be more a casual spectator enjoying the selection of machines on offer? Either way be sure to let the community know if you're attending on the HISCORE 2012 event page here at RetroCollect.
