Early Gameplay Footage Of The Flashback HD Remake

Flashback-HD-RemakeWe're all excited about the upcoming remake of Delphine Software's iconic Flashback, but at the same time we cannot help but feel worried about whether or not it will do the original justice. As of now though we can take a closer look at what VectorCell have been working on and make a decision on the future release for ourselves.

A few days ago IGN released online a short video discussing the HD remake of Flashback. While they were quick to comment that their playthrough was based upon earlier in-development versions of the game, they had quite a few positive remarks to make about the game.

One of the new features the game has brought along is the introduction of mini-maps and visual hints as to where you can jump to and what to do next. From a retro gaming point-of-view, however, these could be considered as interference and an insult to the once challenging days of classic games. That said, VectorCell seem to be well aware of this fact and have made it so that all these visual cues can be disabled for those looking for the more authentic retro experience.

Elsewhere, the game seems to be following the visual style of the original title, only introducing a much slicker (or moderner, if you prefer) presentation through stunning 2.5D visuals.

I was so excited until the inevitable XBL and PSN only release was announced. This game needs to be launched on a serious gaming platform - Windows PC

It looks great, really great, but a title like this loses a lot of its appeal for me when it is a) download only and b) redundant console only

On the PC it could be preserved for the foreseeable future - on XBL and PSN it is completely transient, unlike the original which I can still play today.

Addendum: It IS coming to PC, albeit via Steam, which is almost as bad
