Early Prototype ROM of Notorious 'Superman 64' Leaked Online

Early-Development-Prototype-of-Notorious-Superman-64-Leaked-OnlineOften dubbed the worst game of all time, Superman for the Nintendo 64 has gained one of the worst reputations of all time in the gaming world, and quite rightly so. Mediocrity aside, an early prototype version of Titus Software's fabled game has surfaced online, which believe it or not, some are claiming to be better than the retail release.

If you've actually read this far, you're clearly one of the few who enjoyed this abysmal 64-bit title or interested in the preservation of retro gaming history (We'll assume - and hope - you belong to the latter).

The team behind the Nintendo NES fan site, NES-World, recently held a ROM release fundraiser to get this early version of Superman 64 to the masses whilst recuperating their initial investment. Whilst this was originally hit by some controversy, more than enough funds were eventually raised and a ROM has since been leaked online for download.

Where it gets interesting, however, is that recent claims have suggested that this is (somehow) an improvement on the version we've all avoided over these years. While we cannot say as to why it is better nor are we willing to investigate with our precious free time, we'd love to know how from those willing to revisit Titus Software's horrific example of video games gone wrong.

Nope it's basically an update to E.T. for the N64. It was a really bad game.

@Collz69: E.T. is a rather magnificent game. It incorporated all of the major aspects of the movie into a tiny Atari 2600 ROM. It pioneered a few things we now take for granted in games (title screen, open-ended game play, side-quests, multiple ways to win the game, etc). It suffered from pixel perfect collision detection that made it a chore to play. However, all of that has been fixed.
