Darksoft’s Neo Geo AES & MVS Flash Cartridges Nearing Release

Neo-Geo-AES-Flash-Cartridges-In-DevelopmentMany said it couldn’t be done, yet one enthusiastic retro gaming manufacturer has decided otherwise. Believe it or not but SNK’s timeless Neo Geo platform will soon have its very own flash cartridge - with both the AES home console and MVS arcade system supported.

Over at the Arcade-Projects messageboard Darksoft has been discussing his progress on the Neo Geo AES & MVS Multi-Cartridge. Originally revealed in July 2015, countless gamers have flocked to follow the development, however, it’s only as of now things appear to be taking shape. Last Wednesday Darksoft showcased a selection of PCB pictures which very much suggest the cartridge is nearing a release.

Throughout the discussion various snippets of information have been shared about the device, which when put together holds a lot of promise for fans of the Neo Geo. The multicartridge runs from a combination of an FGPA and DDR that allows space for up to four different games at any one time. It’s yet to be confirmed if a built-in menu will let you choose between which game ROM to load, so we can only assume it will either have dip-switches or cycle between games upon each boot. Although offering both an AES and MVS version, the cartridge is supposedly 99% identical other than making sure each one works on its respective platform.

No matter how powerful it may or may not be, the arrival of a re-writable Neo Geo AES & MVS flash cartridge is a huge step in the right direction. Given how expensive some of SNK’s backcatlogue is, it will be great to finally have another solution to enjoying the likes of Metal Slug and Neo Turf Masters without breaking the bank. That said, while the Neo Geo AES & MVS Multi-Cartridge will be a fraction of the price of other cartridges, it is supposedly due to cost $400 upon release.

Excuse what may be a dumb question but what is the difference between this and one of the following apart from the AES version?

They could not be more different and still be for the same system.
The one in this article is rewritable, so put what you want on it when you want to.
The cart you l listed comes preloaded and can not be changed.
