Danish Games Museum's 4,000 Arcade Games Need A New Home

Spilmuseet-Seeks-Home-For-CollectionWho said the arcade gaming scene was dead? Over in Denmark the Spilmuseet, or 'The Games Museum', known for its vast collection of video games, arcade machines and more, is currently seeking a new home for its stunning range of gaming treasures for the general public to enjoy.

With over 1,400 cabinets, 4,000 arcade boards, and 10,000 console/computer games to hand , the museum's owner Rune Keller has spent roughly one million dollars on what could possibly be the largest collection of gaming history in the world. After failing to receive government support to provide a public home for these cabinets, Keller has now told the Wall Street Journal that he is looking for an institution to step forward to “serve the public good”.

Going by the photographs of the collection, it's safe to say that somebody needs to jump in and help conserve our gaming past. After all, can you think of anywhere near you there is a decent museum dedicated to what turned us into the gamers we are today?

According to Keller there are interested parties in both Sweden, France and the US, however, any confirmation on where this mammoth collection is heading is yet to be confirmed.

That is a thing of beauty... but, why spend money on buying that many duplicates? I can understand buying extra boards and pieces, but not that many full cabs. Unless they are really good games.

Needles to say, this this guy is a notorious collector here in Denmark where I live. I've been told that a large portion of the cabs in his collection have been given to him for free under the promise that they would be preserved and made available to the Danish public. His massive hoarding has made it very hard for other Danish collectors to get hold of original dedicated cabinets, and now that it all gets shipped abroard, it has seriously pissed off most of the Danish arcade colleting community. It's very, very sad times for Danish arcade gaming :(
