Commodore Amiga ‘Giana Sisters’ Special Edition Remake Out Now

Giana-Sisters-Special-Edition-Release-on-Commodore-AmigaIn 1987 the Commodore 64 platformer The Great Giana Sisters caused great controversy due to its striking resemblance to Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Although pulled from the stores the game has since become a cult classic and found itself widely available through pirate copies on a wide range of systems. As of today though, a team of Amiga developers known as PixelGlass have given the game an early 30 year anniversary through their very own Special Edition.

Available as a free download for the Amiga and Amiga CD32, Giana Sisters Special Edition takes the original game and adds in updated artwork, visuals, and audio to give it a more modern feel. This has seen spritework similar to that of the Nintendo DS remake being used along with the portable game’s introduction sequence, and all new sound effects too. Furthermore the game features completely redesigned enemies and bosses, all of which adding further charm to the original release.

PixelGlass have announced that this is the first of their upcoming game hacks and graphical updates, with many more planned for their non-commercial label known as Reimagine Games. Those interested in giving this remake a go can either do so via an Amiga emulator, or instead look towards the ADF, WHDLoad and ISO downloads that are available for the original hardware.
