Classic NES Titles Available For A Limited Time On Nintendo Wii U - For Just 30p Each

Classic-NES-Titles-Available-For-a-Limited-Time-On-Wii-U-For-30p-EachWe're fast coming up to the thirtieth anniversary of the Famicom's Japanese launch and to celebrate Nintendo is offering a slew of classic 8-bit titles at a truly spectacular price. From now until the official anniversary in July, one classic Nintendo title per month will be made available to download for 30 of your English pence.

You read that right - 30p.  If you own the titles on Virtual Console already, then the new Wii U versions will be available at a reduced price (NES titles will be 99p, while Super NES titles will retail at £1.99).  You can even bring your Virtual Console purchases from your Wii with you to your Wii U, in order to grab the price-reduction.

The titles will work in a similar way to how PlayStation Plus functions - with a new title being added every thirty days, replacing the previous game.  You can download each title during its thirty day window, and after that it will revert to its usual price (around £4.99).  The best part is that the titles on offer have been toyed with to make the most of their new home on the Wii U, and all of them can be played using the GamePad alone.

Balloon Fight is available right now, but you'd better be quick as the title's offer window expires next month as a new challenger appears.

The Famicom 30th Anniversary line-up

  • February: F-Zero (Super NES)
  • March: Punch-Out!! (NES)
  • April: Kirby’s Adventure (NES)
  • May: Super Metroid (Super NES)
  • June: Mario & Yoshi (NES)
  • July: Donkey Kong (NES)

New features include savestates, GamePad features and a dedicated MiiVerse community in which to discuss any aspect of the titles or post your high-scores.

And Balloon Fight is awesome.

Let us know what titles you'd like to see brought to the service in the future!

If only you could purchase things through Nintendo's website rather than just through the WII U console itself, that way i could get the classics now and install them once i actually buy the WII U.

Its a system that works well on the 360 and PS3, purchase things now for use later, half my ps plus stuff still hasnt been installed on my hard drive and the less said about the total lack of space on my Vita memory stick the better.
