Cinematronics Arcade Shooter 'Star Castle' Ported To Atari 2600

Atari-2600-Homebrew-Star-Castle-ArcadeIn 1980 a futuristic vector based space shooter was unleashed into the arcades known as Star Castle. Cinematronics' addictive yet challenging release has since become highly regarded and has also appeared many times in pop culture references. As of today though, the game can now be enjoyed on the Atari 2600 via an unofficial port.

This homebrew creation hails from a German developer residing on the AtariAge forums known as Thomas Jentzsch. Also using the Vectrex version of the game for further inspiration, Jentzsch's Atari 2600 port is an incredibly close to the original and an impressive feat given the limitations of the hardware within.

Jentzsch has just released a playable ROM file of Star Castle and has called upon the retro gaming community to play test it for him - both on the original hardware via a Harmony flash cartridge or using an Atari 2600 emulator. While he is hoping for feedback on potential bugs and so forth, all we have to say is great work!

This really came about because another development made a version and didn't want to make it available. It was eventually in physical form through a Kickstarter. So this is like a second version, so you can compare and see which is better. Although the KS version was done in less memory as a tribute to the original ROM limits back in the day.
