Carmageddon Crashes Onto Apple iOS Devices Today

Carmageddon-Crashes-Onto-Apple-iOS-Devices-TodayRemember the controversial vehicle combat come racing game from 1997? Well it's back and rampaging its way into your pocket. Carmageddon has made its return on Apple iOS devices as of today thanks to Stainless Games, and for a limited time can now be downloaded for free.

This all new iOS port deserves some recognition. Stainless Games have brought Carmageddon over to modern devices in what appears to be an incredibly faithful port of the original. Featuring 36 courses and 28 different vehicles, alongside many new additions such as achievements - prepare to get nostalgic, or filled with road rage, with Carmageddon once again.

The game is being made available to download for free for the first 24 hours as Stainless Games way of saying thanks to the fans. Carmageddon wouldn't have been revived unless their Kickstarter was as well recieved as it was. Be sure to jump on their generous offer while you still can.

I have it, I've been playing it, and I can attest that it is incredibly faithful. Gameplay remains identical, and the graphics are merely sharper - it's not a remake.

The only downside, of course, is the touchscreen controls. They work a lot better than I had expected them to (they're probably the best of any iThingy driving game I've played so far) but I'd still rather have a keyboard.

If you're planning on getting this, I wouldn't discourage you - for some vehicular mayhem on the go, this is as good as it gets. I imagine it'd be a lot better and easier to play on an iPad, or one of the large-screened Android phones when the inevitable Android version comes out later this year / early next year. But if like me you're stuck with an iPhone 4S or earlier, it's still worthwhile.
