Bubble Bobble: Lost Cave, 100-Stage Arcade Hack Version 1.2 Available Now

If you were at Manchester's Play Expo this year, you might've seen an unusual Bubble Bobble cabinet with a fan-made hack inside- now's the perfect time to try it at home, as Bubble Bobble: Lost Cave has been updated.

You might remember Bubble Bobble: Lost Cave from this day last year (the same date that Bubble Bobble's designer, Fukio 'MTJ' Mitsuji, passed away- five years ago now). It's a thorough hack of Taito's 1986 classic bubble-em-up by Bisboch and Aladar, with new bonus items and 100 levels culled from the various home versions and ports of the game (including the Game Boy version!). You may have seen these stages before, but playing them in the arcade version really makes a difference!

Whether you played it the first itme around or not, the game's now been updated, a year later. Version 1.2 has a few changes, mostly to make the game easier to put in a real cabinet, offering support for bootleg Bobble Bobble boards (which are a bit easier to find these days), less slowdown (more in line with the original game) and rebalanced difficulty.

If you didn't try the game a year ago, or didn't have the opportunity to try it at Play Expo, why not now? A quick visit to Bibosch and Aladar's site should have you making a journey to the Lost Cave in no time.  Bring a co-op player for maximum fun (just as long as you don't squabble over power-ups).

Wait, what do I put in this box again? Oh, it's about me. I like playing weird and unusual games- the sort you're likely to forget about- and I hope you like reading about them because they're what I write about. And game trivia too. Please look forward to it!
