Brazilian Mega Drive Exclusive 'Duke Nukem 3D' Due For Worldwide Re-Release On Cartridge

Duke-Nukem-3D-Mega-Drive-Due-For-Worldwide-ReleasePiko Interactive are certainly making a name for themselves right now. Not only have the retro studio secured rights to produce cartridges of unreleased Super Nintendo games, but they're also gifting homebrew developers the chance to share their work. Their latest effort, however, will see the Brazilian TecToy Mega Drive exclusive Duke Nukem 3D getting a licensed re-release on cartridge.

Originally hitting South America in 1998, Duke Nukem 3D for the Sega Mega Drive was very much a diluted and simplified port of the PC shooter, only featuring the second of the game's three episodes. Visually it's more akin to that of Wolfenstein 3D, however, this 16-bit port will no doubt go down well with retro gamers interested in the unusual.

As of today locating a TecToy original of Duke Nukem 3D is tough, with eBay auctions asking for $100 upwards a copy. While Piko Interactive's upcoming release is yet to be dated, the retro-publisher is hoping to launch the title with various goodies such as t-shirts - hopefully at a price well below the current going rate.

Known about this for a while but glad to see it get a wider release. Looks a damn sight better than Zero Tolerance and Bloodshot and proves that the MD was capable of doing FPS to a decent standard without extra hardware. 32X, I'm looking at you.
