Brand New Scrolling Shooter ‘Fatal Smarties’ Blasts Onto Sega Mega Drive At Global Game Jam 2016

Fatal-Smarties-Released-For-Mega-DriveEvery year a group of game developers unite to take part in an event with the collaborative aim of creating brand new experiences. The Global Game Jam sees countless indie games born out of quick coding sessions - with this year’s introducing an all new Mega Drive scrolling shooter known as Fatal Smarties.

Although the game currently lacks any narrative, the quick fire release from four developers representing the University of Southampton shows plenty of promise. Unlike most scrolling shooters, Fatal Smarties is a two player game requiring one gamer to navigate whilst the other takes care of the shooting. This interesting mechanic is also complimented by some stunning visuals, especially given the time frame in which they were created.

While it’s yet to be confirmed if the team behind Fatal Smarties have any plans to take the game further than the version presented at Global Game Jam, those interested in sampling this need look no further. a playable ROM of Fatal Smarties can be downloaded for free and run via an emulator or on the original hardware using a Mega Drive flash cartridge.
