Geometry Wars has been the absolute pinnacle of retro-flavoured high-score action in more recent years, however, that's all about to change. It looks like the Nintendo NES is due to get its very own intergalactic 360 degrees shooter, with multiplayer functionality and familiar feints from fighting games thrown into the mix.
Star Versus has just been announced by homebrew developer Dustin "dustmop " Long, with a physical cartridge release expected in the coming weeks. The game itself is very similar to Asteroids, providing a full and repeating screen playing field with onslaughts of incoming enemy ships, planets, and obstacles to avoid.
Similarities aside, this upcoming Nintendo NES homebrew differentiates itself from the likes of Geometry Wars and Asteroids though through its interesting combat mechanics. Not only will you be able to do the expected and shoot ahead, you'll also have access to bomb deflecting swords, strafing mechanics, and daring dashes - all of which you'll need to utilise within the game's interesting multiplayer 'beat-em-up' mode.
While a release date is yet to be confirmed, stay tuned as we await upcoming details on how to get hold of a copy of Star Versus on cartridge.
