Brand New Nintendo NES Homebrew ‘Lizard’ Hits Kickstarter

Lizard-Nintendo-NES-Homebrew-on-KickstarterUsing Kickstarter as a platform to help fund development of an all new 8-bit adventure, Brad Smith has turned to the crowd-sourcing platform to bring Lizard to life. This reptilian platformer spanning countless screens and a nostalgic soundtrack is not only due to hit the Nintendo NES, but also Mac and PC.

Having felt very much like a cog in the game’s industry, Smith has decided to branch away from his day job to create his very own game from scratch. Having previously released other homebrew developments for the NES - such as a chiptune cover album of Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon playable on the console - his new project Lizard is set to build upon his prior 8-bit foundations.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Metroid, Ufouria, Mr Gimmick, and many more NES classics, Lizard is very much your open ended exploratory platformer. With loads of locations to explore, power-ups in the form of lizard suits, and that true 8-bit feel, this is one adventure you’ll want to keep an eye on.

With a demo of Lizard already available on the Kickstarter page, Smith is asking those impressed to help fund the arrival of the game on cartridge. Seeking just a small fraction more of his required $12,000CAD, pledges of $55CAD will secure a copy of the game on cartridge, whilst $10CAD donations will bring a digital download copy.
