Brand New Homebrew Mega Drive, MSX & ZX Spectrum Games Arrive Via BITBIT Jam 2014 Coding Competition

BITBIT-Jam-2014-Entries-ReleasedIf the last year has proved anything, it's that we're never going to run out of brand new experiences on classic gaming hardware. The ever prevalent efforts of homebrew developers have brought us brand new RPGs, platformers and scrolling shooters to name but a few, with many more now arriving through the BITBIT Jam coding competition.

For those unfamiliar with it, BITBIT Jam is a worldwide event which takes place online, encouraging coders to create a new release for the system of their choice - in less than a week. Although the limitation of seven days may prevent some developers from truly getting the most out of the hardware, there have been some fantastic entries already this year spanning the likes of the Sega Mega Drive, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX, and Nintendo Game Boy.

All of the ten entries submitted to the BITBIT Jam have now been uploaded online and made available to download. Knowing that there's readily available devices to load up homebrew games on most of these systems - such as the Mega Everdrive, Everdrive GB, and the DivIDE - these brand new creations can easily be enjoyed as intended with ease.

So what exactly is on offer here then? Well, Mega Drive owners can look forward to tackling two new titles on the 16-bit hardware: Junkbots, a puzzlers by the ever active Mojon Twins, and Leovigildo's Murcian Conspiracy, a single screen arcade release. ZX Spectrum owners have the pick of the bunch though with five entries: Hyper Space Postal Service, Outland, Cra'k the Jam, Maxim the Cat, and Conspiralove. And last but not least, MSX fans have their very own World Cup inspired release Operation Brazil WC, CPC kids can enjoy Save the Humor, and Game Boy gamers should check out Super Philip.

Needless to say, there's plenty of new experiences to be had with these titles despite their quick turnaround.
