Bloody Roar Howls For a Fifth Time, Twitter Confirms (UPDATED)

bloodyroar5Bloody Roar, a title originally created by Hudson Soft, is back in pre-production for it's fifth installment, according to Hudson Soft's Twitter account.

Bloody Roar was a series of fighting games involving characters who can turn into animals, and brought a brand new dynamic to the standard Street Fighter formula, breathing new life into an old concept. The games were exciting and different, and usually made up for the lack of polish with new ideas. The title was one of many fighting franchise that saw a drop in popularity over the years due to oversaturation, and Hudson Soft's takeover by Konami.

Konami, nor Hudson Soft, has announced who will actually publish the title, though there could be multiple issues with the actual publication. Earlier this year, Hudson Entertainment Inc. closed it's doors as a publisher, creating it's last title Lost in Shadow for the Nintendo Wii. With Konami possibly co-developing the title, we could even see new characters from other franchises, such as Castlevania or Contra. Just imagine Castlevania's Cornell character as a playable fighter, and it's already mouth-watering. While there isn't much other news other than the announcement, it's fun to debate which characters will return, or if they will reboot the series entirely. Regardless, all we need is Jenny the Bat, and we're in business.

We have just confirmed through IGN that this story is a hoax. Apparantly, the source was from a Twitter account not officially run by Hudson Soft or Konami. Hudson Soft and Konami have declined to comment, but both Gamespot and IGN Entertainment have adjusted their stories to show that this was a hoax.

Now that the air is cleared, it brings time for discussion. Would you even want a Bloody Roar 5 or would you prefer a reboot? Does this hoax bring new and exciting feelings back to the franchise? Or do you believe it should remain dead and buried. Let us know in the comments below!

I believe this has now been confirmed a hoax. The Twitter account wasn't actually Hudson's or something like that. Read it on thefightersgene

Shame really as I really enjoyed BR Primal Fury on the Gamecube. It's not my favourite series by far but it's definitely underrated.

Updated (as you can see.) My apologies, all. I was following IGN and Gamespot's new briefings. It's a shame that this turned out to be a hoax, however I've updated the latest news entry. My sincerest apologies.

"Sorry people, just wanted to show Konami that their is still fans of BloodyRoar"

My experience with the game is limited to BR2 and a little bit of BR3- I could never really get in to either of them, although I did like the over-the-top character designs (Alice and Busuzima in particular). I've never even seen a copy of BR4, though! While it's certainly unique, I'm not sure about a new game though, simply because there's so many new fighters coming out (KOF XIII, UMVC3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Virtua Fighter V Final Showdown, Skullgirls, Under Night In-Birth) that it might not grab the fighting game community's attention.

@Tepid Snake

Yeah, I agree that a new game would have to be something pretty bloody (no pun intended) special to even be relevant these days. I'm not sure anybody would take it seriously. Oh and BR4 does seem to be pretty uncommon. I have a copy but I've yet to play it. One of the dullest and most generic PAL PS2 covers though!
