Who can deny a good round of Tetris? Atari 7800 owners are now able to join in on the brick placing fun thanks to an all new homebrew for the 1984 console. Block Drop is the latest creation from Ken Siders, an Atari programmer who has already gained a reputation for porting many arcade classics to the fabled system.
Given how small the library of games available on the Atari 7800 is, any homebrew developments for the system are a welcome addition - a port of Tetris being no exception. While there is little to say about the game we've all grown up with and perfected over the years, it appears that Sider's conversion of the Russian puzzle is rather astounding given the platform's limitations.
Although this homebrew release is still very much a work in progress, a downloadable ROM has been uploaded online for all to enjoy. If you happen to have access to a Cuttle Cart 2 - an Atari 7800 flash cartridge - or an emulator at the ready, be sure to check Block Drop out, along with Sider's previous releases b*nQ (Q*Bert) and Beef Drop (Burgertime).
